Group Exercise Classes

Bayside Physio & Pilates have used Pilates inspired exercises as a method of rehabilitation over the last 20 years. Our group classes include a series of exercises or movements of the whole body with the emphasis on control of the movement, maintenance of good posture and flexibility. The exercises tend to be against low load and repeated often rather than concentrating on single areas of the body with pure strength “grunt” gym type exercise. The aim is to build a “coordinated, efficient strength” with good “core” control.

Our group classes are influenced by physiotherapy research into exercise for various spinal and limb conditions. Many of the exercises taught at our clinic take into consideration the muscle and joint problems of our clients. Classes involve mat exercises, and exercise on equipment such as the “reformer”, “trapeze table”, and “exo chair”. We also use fit balls, rollers, weights and pulleys in our physio group classes.

Physio exercise classes have been used successfully in rehabilitation for spinal pain, sciatica, arthritic conditions, scoliosis, postural problems including headache, work injuries, sports injuries and post hip, knee and shoulder surgery.

All clients are first assessed by our physiotherapists and then have a program designed for their specific needs. Exercises are then taught one on one for a few sessions and usually clients then join a small group. Class numbers are kept small and are well supervised by physiotherapists to ensure individual attention and regular progression.

Classes are run through out the day, early morning and evening. You can check our class timetable here

Exercises can be tailored to any age group and to all fitness levels. At the moment our oldest client just had her 90th birthday and our youngest is in high school!

Most Private Health Insurance Funds include cover for physiotherapy group exercise classes.
